Due to the environmental degradation of tropical forests worldwide, ecological restoration has become necessary to re-establish natural processes in these areas. Studies that provide information about the species used in ecological restoration are essential, as they include the potential to generate income and make projects more economically viable. The objective of this work was to evaluate the potential of the wood of four species used in ecological restoration (Peltophorum dubium (Spreng.) Taubert – “canafístula”; Hymenaea courbaril L. – “jatobá”; Jacaranda cuspidifolia Mart. – “jacarandá” and Enterolobium contortisiliquum (Vell.) Morong. – “timboril”) for the production of solid products. The surface quality of the specimens was assessed by five evaluators using the visual-tactile method, resulting in mean grades. Among the four species, jacarandá wood had the best potential for producing solid products, and timboril had the lowest potential. Planing against the grain should be avoided for all species.
