Efficiency of specialized therapeutic enteral nutrition in patients with bone tissue damage

The aim of the study, based on the data of an open comparative clinical trial, was to evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of a specialized food product for dietary therapeutic and dietary prophylactic purposes, including enteral nutrition, Bone Tissue Cocktail (protein) (manufactured by LEOVIT Nutrio) in the complex therapy of patients with gunshot fractures of the extremity bones after healing of soft tissue defects and surgical treatment of the fracture. The study included 40 patients (main and control groups of 20 people) with gunshot fractures of long bones (femur and tibia) and post-traumatic osteoporosis. The data of general clinical and clinical laboratory examination of patients are presented. The condition of most participants was assessed as relatively satisfactory at the time of admission to the trauma department. General clinical examination revealed deviations in blood parameters such as low hemoglobin, elevated leukocyte levels, ESR, elevated gastrointestinal enzymes, decreased total serum protein, decreased albumin levels, abnormal calcium and phosphorus levels (including abnormal ratios), and elevated C-reactive protein. All patients showed decreased bone density. Nutritional support with Bone Tissue Cocktail (protein) was administered to patients in the main group for 60 days. A questionnaire survey of patients in the main group showed that the patients rated the organoleptic properties of the product positively. The therapeutic cocktail reduces pain and improves treatment efficacy. Clinical, laboratory and instrumental studies have shown that the Cocktail significantly and reliably increases the level of total protein, albumin and hemoglobin in the blood, improves metabolism in bone tissue, accelerates fracture healing, increases bone mineral density and bone mineral component, improves calcium and phosphorus levels in the blood, as well as their ratio, reduces bone resorption, reduces levels of the main inflammation markers CRP and ESR, improves liver antitoxic enzymes, improves protein, carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, and improves quality of life. The authors recommend the Bone Tissue Cocktail (protein) as enteral nutrition for patients with bone tissue injuries and osteoporosis against the background of ongoing therapeutic measures to improve patient management tactics: in the pre- and postoperative period, during pharmacotherapy and physiotherapy and during rehabilitation in order to reduce side effects and more quickly recover patients.
