Genomics-Assisted Breeding in Peanut
Résumé fourni par la source
This chapter explores the evolution of peanut breeding techniques, focusing on the transition from traditional breeding methods to advanced molecular breeding approaches. Molecular breeding, encompassing genetic manipulation at the DNA level, has emerged as a powerful tool for enhancing crop traits, including disease resistance, yield, and quality. The chapter delves into the development and application of marker-assisted selection (MAS), highlighting its role in screening and selecting desirable traits through molecular markers. It also discusses the advancements in transgenic breeding and gene editing technologies, which have significantly improved the efficiency and precision of peanut breeding. Additionally, the chapter examines the potential of genomic selection breeding (GSB), a method that utilizes genome-wide DNA markers to predict breeding values, offering a more effective approach to crop improvement. The integration of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and other omics data, along with the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) and Big Data, is anticipated to revolutionize peanut breeding, paving the way for the development of superior peanut varieties. As peanut genomics continues to advance, GSB is set to become a leading technology in peanut breeding, allowing for efficient and accurate selection of traits to improve future crops.
