Cloud computing has emerged as a fundamental paradigm for providing scalable and on-demand computational resources. However, due to the complexity and heterogeneity of modern cloud-edge-mist environments, dynamic resource allocation remains a challenging problem. To address these issues, this research proposes a Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) framework based on Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) for adaptive Resource Allocation (RA) in a hierarchical cloud-edge-mist architecture, namely PPO-RA. Initially, data is accumulated from the Google Cluster Workload Trace dataset, simulated with realistic workloads featuring Poissondistributed task arrivals and diverse task parameters. The proposed PPO-RA model incorporates normalized and encoded features to represent system states and uses a multi-objective reward function to optimize energy efficiency, Service Level Agreement (SLA) adherence, and latency. The PPO-RA DRL agent outperforms traditional methods such as SHapley Additive explanations (SHERA) and Double Deep Q Networks (DDQN) in both energy consumption and optimization quality. This research highlights the potential of DRL to enhance Quality of Service (QoS) and energy-aware scheduling across distributed cloud infrastructures. The proposed PPO-RA model achieves the highest performance values when executing 40 tasks, reaching approximately$26,000 {\%}$, followed closely by DDQN at around$\mathbf{2 5, 0 0 0 \%}$.
