Résumé fourni par la source

This study empirically examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women’s labor market participation in South Korea, using cell-level panel data from the Supplementary Survey on Employment Type of the Economically Active Population Survey (Aug 2017–Aug 2022). Compared to men, women experienced greater employment shocks, with sharper declines in employment and higher unemployment. Women’s employment dropped most in 2020 but gradually recovered afterward. Married women faced larger job losses than married men, and women with at least some college education saw sharper unemployment increases. By age group, women aged 35–39 experienced the largest drop in employment rate, with their unemployment rate steadily increasing over three years. The persistent rise in unemployment among women suggests that those who exited the labor market due to the COVID-19 shock have faced difficulties re-entering employment, likely exacerbated by increased childcare responsibilities and career interruptions.
