Digital Rehabilitation Of Dental Wear: A Case Report

This case report presents the use of digital technologies in the aesthetic and functional rehabilitation of a patient with severe dental wear. The digital workflow streamlined treatment planning, enhanced restoration accuracy, and supported long-term stability. A 32-year-old female teacher presented with over 10 years of generalized dental wear. 1. Pre-treatment phase: Periodontal and endodontic treatments were performed, followed by the extraction of impacted teeth and orthodontic alignment. 2. Provisional phase: A 3D virtual patient model was used to design provisional restorations, which were transferred intraorally. The patient adapted well to the new vertical dimension after one month. 3. Definitive phase: A segmented and staged approach was employed. Digital technology enabled precise replication of provisional restorations, culminating in full-mouth veneers and all-ceramic crowns. 4. Follow-Up Five-year follow-up revealed stable restorations, harmonious occlusion, healthy gingiva, and satisfactory aesthetic and functional outcomes. Accurate determination of mandibular position is critical in occlusal rehabilitation. A trial-and-adjustment method was used to establish a stable occlusion. Integration of a 3D virtual patient facilitated aesthetic design and precise transfer of occlusal relationships and functional pathways from provisional to definitive restorations, achieving both aesthetic appeal and functional integrity. Digital technologies play a pivotal role in managing complex dental wear cases. Their integration throughout diagnosis, design, and treatment phases enables precise, efficient, and predictable outcomes that meet both functional and aesthetic demands.
