During rapid urban expansion, human activities continuously reshape the natural environment, while natural landforms simultaneously influence the modes and pace of anthropogenic transformation. Anthropogenic interventions have reshaped urban spatial form and accelerated certain natural hazards. Analysing changes in urban landscape patterns helps identify potential ecological impacts across different areas and informs effective disaster-prevention measures. Using the Landscape Ecological Risk Index, this study mapped the spatial configuration of landscape-ecological risk in Hunan Province and applied spatial-autocorrelation techniques to examine the province's soil erosion patterns. Finally, the relationship between Ecological Risk Index classes and soil erosion intensity was evaluated. Results reveal a positive yet non-linear coupling between risk level and erosion severity, indicating that the Ecological Risk Index captures ecological vulnerability driven not only by current erosion but also by latent pressures such as landscape fragmentation and functional degradation.
