Le résumé fourni par la source

The present study examines the effects of observed coach incivility on the well-being of bystander student-athletes, further exploring the mediating role of schadenfreude and the moderating role of competition. Two studies – Study 1 with South Korean student-athletes (n = 265) and Study 2 with United States student-athletes (n = 397) – were conducted based on a scenario-based experiment. Findings revealed that observed coach incivility reduced both hedonic and eudaimonic well-being among bystander student-athletes. In addition, observed coach incivility reduced schadenfreude, which in turn increased hedonic well-being but decreased eudaimonic well-being. The moderating effects of competition on the relationships among observed coach incivility, schadenfreude, hedonic well-being, and eudaimonic well-being were generally supported. This study enhances understanding of the complex dynamics involved in bystanders’ responses to observed coach incivility and their well-being by examining the interaction between schadenfreude and competition.
