Euroregions and audio-visual industry: perspectives on co-productions and cultural policy outcomes
Résumé fourni par la source
Audio-visual co-productions have been blooming in Europe, as well as borderland cooperation in the context of the new territorial units created by the European Union called Euroregions. The role of these borderland arrangements in film and television co-productions has yet to be widely studied. However, this is a field of interest as the collaboration in filmmaking at the level of Euroregions may provide the meaningful political and social content that is missing in most co-productions. By studying the case of co-productions in the context of the Galicia-North Portugal Euroregion, this research highlights the role of public policies in the development of the industries and the way they have impacted production strategies, leading to an almost absence of cooperation, which is, nonetheless, desired by players on both sides of the border.
