Statistics of Regional Freight Transportation Volume in Inland River Systems Based on Ship Arrival Data

The accuracy of current statistical results for inland waterway transportation has received widespread attention. The inland river freight transportation volume announced in our country is still based on the registration location of ships, known as the regional freight volume statistical method. With the gradual improvement of infrastructure, the economic and social structures undergo transformation and upgrading. Many ships’ service areas do not match their registered locations. The method based on the current statistical methods cannot fully and objectively reflect the transportation scale within the region. There is an urgent need to conduct research on regional freight transportation volume in inland river systems. Based on the definition of regional freight transportation volume in inland rivers, this paper clarifies the approach for calculating freight transportation volume. It establishes a model for calculating freight volume in inland river systems and conducts an empirical study in Jiangsu.
