Le résumé fourni par la source
Executive functions (EF) are a set of crucial cognitive skills, with low socioeconomic status (SES) being associated with worse EF ability in toddlers. This leads to gaps in school achievement, which continue to widen with time. This study aimed to explore the precise nature of the SES-EF relationship by investigating the role of the home environment, specifically home chaos and home noise. 41 British children aged 4-5 years completed a set of tablet-based EF and vocabulary measures. Parents reported on their objective and perceived SES, home chaos and home noise. Age correlated positively with visual spatial working memory and vocabulary, while no relationships were found between cognitive performance, SES or home environment measures. Possible explanations for this result are discussed.
