Chinese Herbal Medicine for Alzheimer's Disease
Résumé fourni par la source
Alzheimer&s;s disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia, generating a substantial global disease burden, and currently has no cure. Finding ways to support people with AD to have a better quality of life through new treatments, adjunctive therapies, and secondary prevention approaches during its prodromal phase—mild cognitive impairment (MCI)—is an urgent global health priority. Emerging evidence suggests that Chinese herbal medicine may provide some benefits to people with AD and MCI, such as improved cognitive functioning that may better support quality of life. Multi-herb formulations are often used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) due to the theorized multi-target and synergistic approach to treating complex diseases, including AD. This chapter explores Chinese herbal medicine for the management of AD and outlines the current and emerging evidence from clinical trials on popular individual herbs in addition to complex multi-herb formulas.
