Terpene Profiling of Hybrid Cannabis Inflorescence Cultivated in South Korea Using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry

In Cannabis, not only cannabinoids but also other phytochemicals exhibit diverse pharmacological effects.In particular, terpenes are believed to modulate the psychoactive and therapeutic effects of cannabinoids through the "entourage effect".This study investigates the terpene composition of the inflorescences of a hybrid Cannabis cultivar (Cherry Blossom) cultivated in South Korea, using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).A total of 24 terpenes were identified in the essential oil hydrodistilled from hybrid Cannabis inflorescence.Among them, 6 major terpenes, such as αand β-pinene, myrcene, d-limonene, β-caryophyllene, and α-humulene, were quantified.These terpenes are well known for their pharmacological activities, such as anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antioxidant effects, which may contribute to the overall therapeutic potential of Cannabis.This research provides valuable insights into the terpene profiles of Cherry Blossom Cannabis, emphasizing the important role of terpenes in enhancing the pharmacological effects and therapeutic applications of hybrid Cannabis strains.
