MRI-Guided Trans-Perineal Cryoablation in the Treatment of Primary Prostate Cancer: A Prospective Study

Motivation: Prostate cancer is a leading cause of cancer in men, with limited minimally invasive focal treatments available. This study explores MRI-guided cryoablation as a precise alternative to traditional therapies. Goal(s): To evaluate the efficacy and safety of MRI-guided trans-perineal cryoablation in reducing PSA levels and recurrence rates while managing adverse effects in prostate cancer patients. Approach: In a prospective study, 100 patients received MRI-guided cryoablation with four cryoneedles and freeze/thaw cycles, followed by PSA, MRI, and biopsy monitoring. Results: One-year follow-up showed up to 60% PSA reduction, an 11.1% recurrence rate, and manageable urinary and erectile side effects. Impact: MRI-guided trans-perineal cryoablation shows promise as a minimally invasive, precise treatment for localized prostate cancer, with significant PSA reductions and a low 11.1% recurrence rate. These findings support its potential as an effective alternative to traditional therapies.
