Key Messages1. Contexts are multilevel, dynamic, complex, and intersectional.They play a vital role in shaping and being shaped by health systems and their resilience.Only by exploring and taking into consideration context specificities will researchers and policymakers be able to analyze and capture the resilience of health systems.2. Context encompasses vari ous factors, including language, social interactions, disease dynamics, the economy, historical trauma, geography, climate, local and global politics, and their hierarchies.The chapter pre sents a conceptual framework to illustrate and analyze context along three dimensions: individual and community, disease dynamics, and ecologies and systems.3. The framework helps explore how the three dimensions of context shape health outcomes and health systems resilience.It allows for a nuanced investigation of the (1) immediate relationships of an individual to their immediate surroundings and circumstances (e.g., housing, communities), (2) the systems and structures these are built on and the ecologies they are embedded in (e.g., welfare systems, economies, historical trauma, discrimination, geography, climate, global politics), and (3) the dynamics of the disease or emergency to which the system must apply resilience.
