INTRODUCTION: In this work, a site-centered trial search was implemented for the Molecular Tumor Board of the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH). METHODS: The UKSH Study Registry was selected as the data source as it provides detailed and up-to-date information for local clinical trials. A Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) server was selected as an adequate intermediate format. The extension of cBioPortal was implemented within the UKSH instance with supplemented TypeScript scripts. RESULTS: An Extract, Transform, Load process was created from the UKSH Study Registry for the generation of a FHIR study registry. The exported data was converted into FHIR R4 resources according to the implementation guide for the Medical Research Project extension module of the core dataset of the Medical Informatics Initiative and were uploaded to a FHIR server. A new study search function was integrated into the patient view of the software platform cBioPortal used by the UKSH. A dialog box allows for checking and defining search parameters. CONCLUSION: This study search uses the UKSH FHIR study registry data to identify suitable clinical trials. This extension of cBioPortal enables an efficient search for recruiting oncological studies as a therapy recommendation of the Molecular Tumor Board and improves patient access to suitable clinical studies.
