Irrigation Management in Mango Orchards

Mango is an evergreen plant grown in tropical and subtropical regions. A proper irrigation system for mango should be established to improve fruit productivity. The objective of irrigation is to apply the optimum moisture essential for plant growth. Irrigation is not only important for plant survival but also a key component in sustainable agricultural practices. Due to the shortage of water resources, it is necessary to focus on the irrigation schedule and methods to minimize water loss and improve the water use efficiency (WUE) of agricultural cultivation. Different irrigation methods have been developed with varying efficiency rates and effectiveness in mango orchards, such as surface, furrow, drip, and sprinkler irrigation systems. The effectiveness of the irrigation system varies according to agro-ecological conditions, plant type, and soil conditions. Here, we briefly discuss the effects of different mango irrigation systems and management strategies to improve mango irrigation efficiency rates.
