Abstract This study proposes a novel single wavy-walled microchannel heat sink (MC-SWW) and investigates its flow and heat transfer characteristics under varying amplitudes and Reynolds numbers through numerical simulations. Compared to the rectangular microchannel heat sink (MC-RC), the MC-SWW’s wavy walls generate vortices and enhance fluid perturbation, significantly improving heat transfer efficiency. Within the Reynolds number range of Re = 147–736, the MC-SWW exhibits higher average flow velocity and a more uniformly distributed temperature field. At Re = 736, α = 1.33, the comprehensive performance factor reaches 1.50, showing substantial improvement over traditional designs. The study validates the wavy structure’s effectiveness in flow disturbance.
