The Role of Black Mother-Daughter Sex Communication on Sexual Perceptions and Experiences in Adolescence and Adulthood

Abstract: This study examines the influence of Black mother-daughter sex-communication on daughters' sexual perceptions from adolescence to adulthood. Using nationally representative data, we analyze the relationship between sex-communication frequency and topics (pregnancy, morality, social implications, and STI risk) on sexual guilt, pleasure, and satisfaction. Results indicate that discussion topics significantly influence these aspects of sexuality in adolescents and adulthood. Further research is needed to understand how to support Black mothers in effectively and positively communicating about sex to promote healthy sexual development in their children. This research contributes to literature on the long-term effects of mother-daughter sex communication on sexual well-being.
