Unlocking the new mode for in-situ co-composting of distiller's grains and sludge in Jiang-flavor Baijiu: Humification enhancement and driving effect

The in-situ disposal and combined utilization of the Jiang-flavor Baijiu distiller's grains (JFBDG) and sludge (DSS) have become a significant challenge to achieving the "zero-waste factory" in the Jiang-flavor Baijiu industry. Additionally, it is a major challenge for achieving clean production and promoting green, sustainable development. In this study, the feasibility of using JFBDG as the humic precursor additive was examined. The addition of 8% (T1) and 16% (T2) of JFBDG to DSS increased dissolved organic carbon, promoting the generation of humus precursor and improving condensation. As a result, the F max value of humic-like components increased compared with that of the control (CK). In addition, the activities of organic matter-decomposing microorganisms (such as Solibacillus and Planifilum ) and key enzymes were enhanced, and the pathways of carbohydrate metabolism and amino acid metabolism were reinforced in T2. The network and path models revealed that the addition of JFBDG provided precursors and stimulated their generation, thereby accelerating humification. This study provides technical support for the development of the innovative in-situ co-disposal model for JFBDG and DSS, paving a new path for the Baijiu industry to overcome waste disposal challenges and achieve clean production.
