Biodiversity data, citizen science and online recording systems – overview and experiences // The Museum “Haus der Natur” is documenting data on Salzburg's flora and fauna in a central biodiversity-database for more than 20 years. In order to provide an up-to-date data collection system, especially for volunteer observers, various online reporting platforms have been evaluated and compared. In this comparison the portal Observation.org developed in the Netherlands met most of the needs defined, especially in regard to its functionalities for data validation the global data entry and broad taxonomic range. Thanks to the cooperation with Observation International, biodiversity-data are now recorded via website or smartphone through Observation.org and can then be transferred to the central database. Photos can be used for automatic species identification and the results are then directly verified by experts.
