(BJA. 2024 Nov 1;133(5):1062–1072. doi: 10.1016/j.bja.2024.08.002) There is significant impact on a physician’s career when pregnancy and parenting is considered, especially in high-demand specialties such as anesthesiology and intensive care. There have been reports of increases in satisfaction from physicians regarding their experiences with their pregnancies and parenting, however, the data originates from studies performed in select regions. Therefore, the researchers who designed the survey being discussed here had an overall goal of further understanding the factors impacting pregnancy and parenting satisfaction in physicians, specifically within the specialties of anesthesiology and intensive care. Their assessment of pregnancy and parenting satisfaction included perceived impact on career progression, working conditions, family planning, child-rearing, etc.
