GreenSpray: implementing the Green Deal in fruit cultivation via precision spraying technology using CFD modelling

The GreenSpray project is committed to making fruit cultivation in Flanders more sustainable by evaluating, optimizing, and implementing precision spraying techniques. The goal of the project is to achieve a significant reduction in the use and impact of crop protection products (CPPs) by 2030. In GreenSpray, orchards are digitized by means of accurate 3D scans using LIDAR synchronized with RTK-GPS. These 3D scans serve as input for simulations for testing and optimizing precision spraying techniques. Simulations were carried out using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Three different nozzles were compared, with different droplet size distributions. The results generated through CFD simulations serve as an assessment tool of on-tree, ground and off-tree depositions.
