Fires in enclosed buildings may induce fire spread, resulting in consequences that are more severe than the initial incident. To explore the spatiotemporal evolution of fire spread in an enclosed building and summarize the fire spread process, a 2 × 2 moment-resisting steel framed structure was constructed. The heat release rate, temperature and significant moments were recorded during the experimental process. The fire spread process was simulated by FDS. The result demonstrated that the gradual transition from a nonuniform temperature field to a uniform temperature field in spatial, and the fire spread speed and fire intensity growth rate gradually increased in temporal. The enclosed building fire spread process can be divided into three stages: the fire fully developed in the fire compartment, weak barrier failure occurred, and combustibles ignited in the target compartment. This study lays the foundation for future research on enclosed building fire spread experimental studies on influential factors and quantitative methods for assessing the risk of fire spread risk.
