Advancements in optical computing hold transformative potential for next‐generation wireless communication systems, particularly in enhancing intelligent radio access networks. This review examines the evolution of intelligent radio access network architectures and their growing reliance on high‐speed, energy‐efficient processing solutions. Recent progress in photonic integrated circuits is highlighted, focusing on their role in implementing neural network operators—including coherent matrix‐vector multiplication (MVM), noncoherent MVM, and activation functions—as well as other optical neural networks (ONNs). The advantages of photonic integrated chip‐based computing, such as ultrahigh computational density and parallelism, are critically analyzed against challenges like nonlinear processing limitations, scalability bottlenecks, and practical deployment hurdles. Future perspectives address the integration of ONNs into intelligent radio access networks to tackle latency reduction, energy optimization, and dynamic resource management in the next generation of mobile technologies. By bridging optical computing innovations with wireless communication paradigms, this work underscores the need for interdisciplinary collaboration to unlock scalable, efficient, and intelligent next‐generation networks.
