Multivalent Fullerenes As Macrophage Targeting Non-Steroid Anti-Inflammatory Drug

Water-soluble fullerene derivatives have been proposed as potential non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs due to their strong antioxidative property. Recently, we examined a family of water-soluble fullerene derivatives and examined their antioxidant capacity. Among the group, the hexakisadduct of C60 showed respectable performance while itself being a well-defined, multivalent scaffold. We then introduced GalNac saccharide ligands to help the hexakisfullerene target the receptor of macrophage cells. We will present our latest result showing enhanced targeting effect to Raw 264.7 macrophage cells, as well as the anti-inflammatory performance of the fullerene drug.
