How to deal with non-persistently aphid-transmitted bulb flower viruses?

In the Netherlands in open field grown crops, infections with aphid-transmitted viruses increased dramatically over the last decade. One of the major reasons is the appearance of flying aphids earlier in spring, especially following a mild winter. When there is a trend of milder winters with hardly any frost days, aphid species tend to change to an anholocyclic life cycle without the production of a winter egg. This results in earlier aphid flights in spring. Especially for early grown flower bulbs (for example tulips) this is concerning as aphids are vectors of several non-persistently transmitted plant viruses. Another concern for growers is the changing availability of crop protection chemicals and increasing insecticide resistance in aphids, so current research is looking for, developing and evaluating alternative aphid and virus control measures.
