Le résumé fourni par la source

This chapter provides a comprehensive review of the whole-food, plant-predominant (WFPP) nutrition pillar of lifestyle medicine to aid in the overall health and well-being of individuals while preventing or managing chronic health conditions. WFPP eating patterns focus on the intake of minimally processed, fiber-rich whole foods, including vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds, with minimal animal products. The chapter will explore the variations of WFPP eating patterns. Primary care providers will gain insights into the connections between food and physical health and well-being, including the science behind whole-food-based nutrition and strategies for guiding patients. WFPP eating patterns are endorsed by numerous medical associations and align with the Food is/as Medicine movement, supporting individual and planetary health. Practical strategies for primary care providers, including the 5 A’s Framework, are outlined to facilitate patient adoption, making WFPP eating a sustainable and impactful tool for promoting health equity and preventing chronic diseases. The chapter concludes with strategies to offer patients informed dietary choices and appropriate referrals.
