Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is the main cause of hospitalisation in infants. The present single-centre observational study aimed to analyse the adherence to universal prophylaxis with nirsevimab and to evaluate its preliminary effectiveness in the reduction of the burden of RSV disease at a Neonatology unit during the 2024-2025 epidemic season, by comparing the data with the previous seasons. The adherence to prophylaxis stood at high levels. The comparative analysis highlighted a statistically significant reduction in the incidence of RSV bronchiolitis and in the number of hospitalisations for acute respiratory diseases in the current season compared to the previous ones (p<0.001). The preliminary results suggest that prophylaxis with nirsevimab may represent an effective strategy in mitigating the disease burden associated with RSV in the neonatal population. Further prospective multicentre studies are necessary to consolidate these findings and guide future public health policies.
