Le résumé fourni par la source

Desalination has become an increasingly important technology for addressing the global freshwater shortage. However, the high energy consumption of desalination plants is a significant drawback, contributing to their operational costs and environmental impact. The chapter begins by exploring the technological perspectives of desalination, covering the key thermal and membrane-based desalination technologies, as well as emerging hybrid systems. It delves into the energy considerations associated with each desalination method, highlighting their specific energy requirements and the need for energy optimization. This chapter then introduces the concept of energy recovery for desalination, discussing the various types of energy recovery systems (ERS) that can be coupled with these processes. This includes an in-depth examination of ERS, such as pressure exchangers, hydraulic turbines, and osmotic power generation systems. The performance characteristics, energy recovery potential, and economic feasibility of these technologies are analyzed, drawing on case studies and empirical data from existing desalination plants. Furthermore, this chapter explores the application of ERS in renewable energy-powered desalination systems, addressing the integration of these technologies with sources like solar, wind, and geothermal energy. The challenges and future directions in the field of energy recovery from desalination processes are also discussed, including advancements in membrane materials, system integration, and the use of hybrid energy recovery solutions. The findings presented in this comprehensive chapter can inform the design and optimization of more efficient and sustainable desalination systems, contributing to global efforts to address water scarcity and energy challenges.
