1316-P: Prediction of the Development of Diabetes and Comorbidities by Time Spent in a Unipodal Stance with Eyes Closed
Le résumé fourni par la source
Introduction and Objective: Balance failure is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes. In a longitudinal study, we examined the relationship between time spent in a unipodal stance, with eyes closed, and the incidence of diabetes and comorbidities, including coronary artery disease (CAD) and cerebrovascular disease (CVD), in a population. Methods: We analyzed 74,973 people (19-81 years; 47,394 men) after health checkups. Participants with no disease history at baseline were followed for ≥3 years (mean 8.3 ± 3.6). Target conditions included diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome (MetS), CAD (myocardial infarction, angina pectoris), and CVD (ischemic stroke, cerebral hemorrhage). Participants were divided into quartiles (Q) based on time spent in a unipodal stance with closed eyes: Q1 (≤12 s), Q2 (13-29 s), Q3 (30-60 s), and Q4 (≥61 s). Results: Disease incidence was: 6.5% diabetes, 27.5% dyslipidemia, 19.5% hypertension, 13.6% MetS, 0.8% CAD, and 1.1% CVD. Using a Cox proportional hazards model, HRs for disease development in the Q1 vs. Q4 group were 1.1-1.9 times higher. The HRs for diabetes and CAD incidence were: 1.15 (95% CI 1.05, 1.27) and 1.88 (95% CI 1.32, 2.70), respectively; the latter was particularly strong. Conclusion: This finding suggests a shorter time spent in a unipodal stance with eyes closed may predict diabetes and comorbidities, especially coronary artery disease. Disclosure T. Sato: None. K.
