1328-P: Assessment of Clinical Practice Gaps Related to Hypercortisolism Screening and Diagnosis in People with Difficult-to-Control Type 2 Diabetes

Introduction and Objective: Understanding gaps related to clinical knowledge and ability to screen/diagnose hypercortisolism in people with difficult-to-control T2D is critical to improve education and training care of people struggling to control T2D. Methods: A survey of 25 multiple choice, knowledge- and case-based questions allowed assessment of clinical knowledge and competence related to hypercortisolism impact, screening and diagnosis. The survey was available online without monetary compensation or charge. Respondent confidentiality was maintained and responses were de-identified and aggregated prior to analyses. Data collection occurred from March 15, 2024 to May 14, 2024. Results: 75 diabetologists/endocrinologists (D/Es) and 442 primary care physicians (PCPs) completed the assessment. Conclusion: This assessment of D/Es and PCPs yielded important insights into gaps in understanding and screening/diagnosis of hypercortisolism in people with difficult-to-control T2D. As expected, PCP baseline knowledge was lower than D/Es, with both groups demonstrating clinical practice gaps that can be addressed with education. This activity was the first component of an initiative aimed at improving knowledge/competence related to hypercortisolism screening and diagnosis, the impact of which will be measured in future activities.
