1084-P: Can Online CME Curriculum Impact Screening and Diagnosis of Cushing Syndrome in People with T2D? Results at Baseline and Immediately Post-education

Introduction and Objective: Study seeks to assess if a series of online continuing medical education (CME) activities can improve screening for Cushing syndrome in people with difficult-to-control T2D by primary care physicians (PCPs) and diabetologists/endocrinologists (D/Es). Methods: Educational intervention included 3 activities- a 15-minute call-to-action on screening, a 30-minute panel discussion on prevalence and patient journey, and a 1-hour interactive case-based test and then teach case-based application activity. Before each activity, learners answered questions about their clinical practice and patients in the past 3 months as well as competence- and confidence-level questions (which are repeated immediately following participation). Additionally, after the activities, learners selected practice changes they intended to make from a select all that apply list with the option to select no changes. The activities launched in July 2024 and data were collected through December 2024. Results: 1,117 PCPs, 121 D/Es, and 643 NPs/PAs participated. 93% practice in the community setting. PCPs, D/Es and NPs/PAs report seeing an average of 8, 13, and 9 patients per month with T2D, respectively. Immediate impact of education demonstrates 46% improved their competence in screening and 175% more learners are now confident in their ability to recognize patients with difficult-to-control T2D who should be screened for hypercortisolism. Intended behavior changes include 31% of PCPs, 28% of D/Es and 30% of NPs/PAs intend to screen patients with difficult-to-control T2D for hypercortisolism. Conclusion: The pre-education data demonstrate gaps in screening in the presence of difficult-to-control T2D, as well as the positive impact of education on competence, confidence and intent to change practice.
