Climate change significantly affects the geographic distribution patterns of plants. As a commonly used traditional herbal medicine, Swertia bimaculata has lacked research on its response to climate challenges. This study, for the first time, utilized the MaxEnt model and ArcGIS software to predict and analyze the suitable habitats for S. bimaculata in China across different periods. The results indicated that the annual precipitation (bio_12, 42.6%), min temperature of coldest month (bio_6, 28.5%), aspect (8.2%), slope (5.2%), and temperature annual range (bio_7, 3.2%) were the main environmental factors influencing the distribution of S. bimaculata in China. Under the current climate scenario, the suitable habitat for S. bimaculata was predicted to be 201.02 × 104 km2, accounting for 20.94% of China’s total land area, primarily distributed in the regions south of the Qinling-Huaihe line and east of the Hengduan Mountains. Under different future climate scenarios, the suitable area for S. bimaculata showed a significant expansion trend, with the centroid exhibiting a shift toward higher latitudes. This study provides scientific references for the rational introduction and cultivation of S. bimaculata in China.
