Gecko-Inspired Surface Microstructures: Friction Control and Adaptive Design for Space Environments
Le résumé fourni par la source
Abstract Gecko-inspired microscale structures offer unique advantages in surface interaction, leveraging van der Waals forces for high traction and non-adhesive contact. This study utilized FEM simulations and experimental testing to evaluate cost-effective, resin-based 3D-printed tread patterns for low-gravity environments, such as space stations. FEM simulations provided insights into the mechanical behavior of the structures, while experimental testing on rough metal surfaces validated the results, demonstrating superior traction, flexibility, and durability. The findings highlight the potential of these scalable, affordable designs for applications in aerospace, robotics, and other industries requiring advanced surface adaptability.
