EVALUATION OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS USED FOR ENHANCING IMPLEMENTATION OF SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS STUDIES CURRICULUM IN KADUNA STATE OF NIGERIA

This study investigated the evaluation of instructional materials used for enhancing implementation of the Senior Secondary School Christian Religious Studies (CRS) curriculum in Kaduna State, Nigeria. The main objective was to find out the extent to which available instructional materials used by teachers of Senior Secondary School adequately enhance the implementation of Christian Religious Studies curriculum in Kaduna State of Nigeria. It specifically looks at the concept of instructional materials, types of instructional materials available for implementation of Christian Religious Studies curriculum and importance of instructional materials on implementation of Senior Secondary School Christian Religious Studies Curriculum in Kaduna state, Nigeria. The study adopted the survey research design. The total population of the study was 14,309, comprising of teachers and students of Christian Religious Studies at Senior Secondary School in Kaduna State from which a random sample of 721 respondents was selected. The sample was drawn from 36 senior secondary schools within three senatorial zones of Kaduna state. Data was collected using questionnaires. The data were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, mean, standard deviation and t-test. The findings showed that the CRS subject is mainly taught using verbal communication, textbooks and the globe is commonly use. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that curriculum planners and other educational stakeholders in Kaduna state should establish CRS resource centres in every zone so that instructional materials for teaching CRS can easily be availed to teachers for teaching the subject. This paper will significantly help teachers and other educational stakeholders to understand the importance of combining various instructional materials and technological tools to support effective curriculum implementation with the sole purpose of ensuring that learners are able to master, retain and live out the content that is taught in CRS in Kaduna State, Nigeria.
