Exploring the Tourism Potential of Rural Communities in Zimbabwe
Résumé fourni par la source
This study assesses the ability of heritage sites found in rural communities to draw tourists and enable host communities to derive meaningful benefits from tourism initiatives, focusing on heritage sites found in the Buhera district, Zimbabwe. Rural communities have heritage sites that may be utilised for tourism. Despite the uniqueness of such heritage sites, they remain unpopular among tourists. The views of traditional leaders, political leaders, government department heads, and local authorities were gathered through interviews and observations. The stakeholders were purposively selected because they know the heritage sites found in the area and are involved in policy formulation and implementation. The results revealed that Buhera district has natural and cultural attractions that can be used for tourism. Findings further indicated that Cultural festivals, nature-based tourism, homestays, and cultural tourism are the dominant tourism activities that may be implemented.
