Abstract Introduction: While the consumption of conventional tobacco products (CTP) is slowly decreasing, novel tobacco products (NTP) such as electronic and heated cigarettes (NTP) are gaining popularity. According to Eurobarometer 2020 most EC and HTC users in Europe try to quit unassisted, although more of them report the use of a cessation aid compared to tobacco smokers. Abstinence from all tobacco products should be the final goal. Therefore, cessation guidelines should be produced both for electronic and heated cigarettes. However, data regarding NTP cessation methods are few.Aim: Tο study the quit rates of first line smoking cessation pharmaceutical treatment when used in NTP.Methods: A cross-sectional study conducted in the outpatient Smoking Cessation Clinic of the Pulmonary Department of First Intensive Care Medicine in Evangelismos Hospital during November 2022-2023. Data regarding demographics, comorbidities, addiction, previous attempts and readiness to quit scales were collected from CTP and NTP users. A specialized psychologist and respiratory physicians were providing behavioural and pharmaceutical treatment respectively in five sessions in both groups. Results: Data of 118 patients are shown at Table 1: a) Characteristics and comparison between the two groups that are using only CP (tobacco) or NTP and b) Rates and comparison between smoking cessation in the two groups.•Most of NTP smokers were dual users (also using CP) and were highly addicted (62.7%). •Smokers in both groups had respiratory (Asthma CP:19.5%vs NTP:34.3% and COPD CP: 12.2%) and mental health comorbidities (depression/ anxiety, CP:26.8% vs NTP: 22.9%). •A high percentage were motivated to quit (CP: 82% vs NTP: 69.1%), as they reached our SCC and had previously attempted to quit (CP: 81.4% vs NTP: 74.6%). • Smoking cessation rates at 3 months were high in both groups (CP:63.6% vs NTP:74.5%).Conclusion: The combination of behavioral and pharmaceutical therapy is effective as cessation method for NTPs. Further studies are needed in order to produce guidelines for quitting NTP.
