Relocated sesame silage added with fermented milk and evaluated over different storage periods

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of fermented milk on the quality of relocated sesame silage in comparison to the use of commercial inoculants with Lactobacillus buchneri and silage with no additives, at different times after relocation. A completely randomised design with five replications was adopted in factorial scheme (3 × 4), with the main factor being the three relocated sesame silages (no additive, commercial inoculant or fermented milk) and the secondary factor being the time the silos were opened after the silages were relocated (15, 30, 60 and 90 days). An average of 246.1 g/kg−1 of dry matter was found with the use of the L. buchneri inoculant in the 60-day storage period, while crude protein showed the highest content in the 15-day period with the use of fermented milk, which was 121.7 g/kg−1 DM. The best results for the population of lactic acid bacteria were observed at 15 and 30 days of storage in the treatment with the L. buchneri inoculant, which was 6.74 and 5.80 CFU/g. The use of commercial inoculants in relocated sesame silage is recommended, as it provides better results. The use of fermented milk implies an increase in the moisture content of the material, resulting in poor-quality silage.
