Musculoskeletal disorders in the general population: Epidemio-clinical and evolutionary characteristics at the CSCom-U of Konobougou

Introduction: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), long unknown, are increasingly described as damage to muscles, tendons, skeleton, cartilage and ligaments. The objective of this study was to determine the epidemio-clinical and evolutionary profile of MSDs in the general population. Methodology: This was a prospective, descriptive study on MSDs carried out at the Community and University Health Center (CSCom-U) of Konobougou from August 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022. It concerned all patients of any age with musculoskeletal lesions. Results: The 35-44 and 45-59 age groups were the most represented with 21.2% each, with an average age of 39.77 years and extremes of 1 to 79 years. The male sex was dominant with 61.24% of cases. Pain was the main reason for consultation (100% of cases) followed by functional impotence of a limb in 22.2% of cases. Bones were the most affected structure with 48.9% of cases, followed by joints 18.3% and tendons 17% of cases. Our patients were cured in 63% of cases. Conclusion: This study shows that MSDs are encountered both in occupational medicine and in general consultations. It is a disorder more common in men than in women and is the source of a significant amount of suffering. Accidents on the public highway have been found as antecedents.
