Abstract Mud Line Suspension Wells (MLS) are cornerstone in subsea asset management, enabling temporary abandonment and subsequent tie-back for production. These wells facilitate efficient resource management, ensuring operational flexibility and economic viability. However, potential failures highlight the challenges of aging infrastructure and environmental factors. These failures emphasize the need for a comprehensive review and re-risk assessment of all MLS wells. This paper presents a detailed approach adopted by the National Oil Company Offshore to reassess the risks associated with all MLS wells under their management. The aim is to minimize risk exposure by deploying advanced technology to identify and provide early warnings of leaks from potentially risky wells. The approach includes a thorough qualitative risk assessment, considering factors such as age, environmental conditions, and historical wells construction data. The findings and recommended control measures from the qualitative risk assessment were presented to senior management and asset teams. This communication ensures effective allocation of rig resources, based on the probability and severity of identified risks. By prioritizing wells with higher risk profiles, the National Oil Company Offshore can optimize its operational strategy, enhance safety, and ensure the longevity of its subsea assets.
