ABSTRACT Finding suitable renewable resources as alternatives to fossil fuels is crucial for alleviating energy shortages and climate change. Bio‐coal, a type of solid fuel with a low combustion rate, was prepared via the co‐distillation of corncob pyrolysis products (biochar and bio‐oil). The thermal polymerization of bio‐oil in the distillation process can effectively increase the content of C‐C and C‐O bonds in biochar and can plug the pores of biochar to form a denser structure, thereby improving thermal stability and reducing the combustion rate, with a lower comprehensive volatile release index and composite combustion index. Finally, considering the yield, storage, pyrolysis, and combustion characteristics of the samples, the optimal pyrolysis temperature for corncob production was determined to be 800°C.
