Self-Objectification, Gender Dysphoria, and Menstrual Cup Attitudes

This study explores the experiences of menstruators who do not identify as cisgender women. One hundred and forty-five menstruating, non-cisgender participants were surveyed to assess their level of self-objectification, gender dysphoria, attitudes toward menstruation, and awareness of and willingness to use a menstrual cup. Self-objectification and gender dysphoria were found to predict negative attitudes toward menstruation, which also predicted negative reactions to the cup and feelings that it would trigger discomfort about identity and the body. Gender dysphoria was also linked to feelings that the cup would cause these discomforts.
