Structural. Electronic and Magnetic Properties of Zn-Doped Ba2CoS3

The study investigates the structural and physical properties and also the phase transition of Zn-doped$\mathbf{Ba}_{\mathbf{2}}\mathbf{CoS}_{\mathbf{3}}$using the solid-state reaction method. The alloys, produced using the method, have been analyzed using X-ray diffraction. All members of the series have shown a$\mathbf{Ba}_{\mathbf{2}}\mathbf{CoS}_{\mathbf{3}}$-type orthorhombic structure with lattice parameters of$\boldsymbol{a}=\mathbf{11.72}\ \overset{\circ}{\mathbf{A}}, \boldsymbol{b} = 12.64 \overset{\circ}{\mathbf{A}}$, and$\boldsymbol{c}=\mathbf{4.14}$Å (no standard deviations were quoted). The series' physical properties have been analyzed via electric and magnetic properties measurements. The electric resistivity showed that they were insulators with semiconducting characteristics and increasing temperatures. The resistivity has decreased with increasing Zn content, with an estimated resistivity of$\mathbf{10}^{\mathbf{3}}\mathbf{\Omega}-\mathbf{10}^{\mathbf{2}}\mathbf{\Omega}$. The studied magnetic susceptibility has shown antiferromagnetic behavior of$\mathbf{Ba}_{\mathbf{2}}\mathbf{CoS}_{\mathbf{3}}$, and the Neel temperature was estimated which decreases with Co substitution by Zn, and with complete substitution of Co by Zn, the alloy becomes a paramagnetic material. The electric susceptibility and dielectric properties were also investigated.
