MXene-Based ‘Therapeutic Agents'
Le résumé fourni par la source
In recent years, the field of nanomedicine has witnessed a paradigm shift with the emergence of 2D transition metal carbides and nitrides, collectively known as MXenes. This chapter highlights recent advancements in MXene-based therapeutics, emphasizing their role in addressing prominence in biomedical applications due to their unique physiochemical characteristics. MXenes exhibit remarkable biocompatibility, tunable surface chemistry, and facile functionalizations, making them ideal candidates for drug-delivery systems. The high surface area and ability to encapsulate various therapeutic molecules enhance drug-loading and drug-release kinetics, addressing challenges in conventional drug delivery. Moreover, MXenes possess intrinsic photothermal and photodynamic properties, allowing for multimodal therapeutic approaches in cancer treatment. As ongoing research continues to unveil the full potential of MXenes in biomedicine, their unique properties hold the promise of delivering innovative solutions for targeted drug delivery, imaging, and diagnostics, thereby opening new avenues for the development of next-generation therapeutics.
