Abstract Objective: To explore the clinical characteristics of Chinese patients with hip rotator cuff tear, describe key points of arthroscopic repair surgery, and short-term clinical outcomes. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the medical records of 17 patients who underwent arthroscopic surgery for hip rotator cuff tear at the Second Hospital of Shandong University from September 2019 to May 2021 and had follow-up of more than 2 years. There were 6 males and 11 female patients with a median age of 56.0 years (range 35-72 years). Among them, 9 patients (53%) experienced nocturnal pain symptoms, and 10 patients (59%) had a positive flexion-internal rotation resistance test. The pain visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to assess pain improvement preoperatively and at 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively. The modified Harris Hip Score (mHHS) and International Hip Outcome Tool-12 (iHOT-12) were used to evaluate hip function improvement preoperatively and at 6, 12, and 24 months postoperatively. Results: All patients successfully underwent surgery with a mean operation time of (91.2±18.3) minutes (range 73-112 minutes) and a mean follow-up time of 29 months (range 25-33 months). Intraoperatively, all patients were found to have hip rotator cuff tears, which were repaired using anchor suture fixation. Ten patients had concomitant acetabular labral injuries, with 5 undergoing labral repair. The VAS score decreased significantly from preoperative (5.24±1.15) to postoperative 1 month (2.29±0.69), 3 months (1.77±0.56), and 6 months (1.59±0.62) (F=79.31, P<0.001). The mHHS improved significantly from preoperative (49.59±6.11) to postoperative 6 months (81.00±3.89), 12 months (81.71±3.41), and 24 months (81.94±3.29) (F=232.00, P<0.001). The iHOT-12 score increased significantly from preoperative (42.65±6.04) to postoperative 6 months (66.53±3.43), 12 months (68.12±3.48), and 24 months (69.06±3.53) (F=150.00, P<0.001). Conclusion: Arthroscopic repair surgery is an effective method for treating hip rotator cuff with good short-term clinical outcomes.
