Bezoar removal in a curious case of natural gastrogastric fistula after vertical banded gastroplasty

Text Vertical banded gastroplasty (VBG) is a procedure not used anymore due to ineffective weight loss and common complications. A 59-year-old male, who uderwent a VBG, presented with vomiting and significant weight loss. He suffered from these symptoms for years, and once in our clinic, the esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) performed under general anesthesia revealed the presence of a bezoar in the gastric pouch. Behind the bezoar, the presence of a gastrogastric fistula was observed, and complete obliteration at the site of the gastric outlet. On retroflexion, the incorporation of the bendage in the gastric mucosa was observed. The increase of pressure inside the gastric pouch due to the presence of the beazoar, led to the formation of gastro-gastric fistula. Once the bezoar was removed, the patient resumed oral feeding with no symptoms.
