Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy for detection of vaginal bacteria
Résumé fourni par la source
Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has potential to be used for routine microbiome monitoring, which would be beneficial for studying vaginal dysbiosis. In this study, SERS was used to study vaginal bacteria in various biofluids. In both pure and vaginal fluid mimicking solutions, SERS spectra were used to predict the ratiometric bacterial content with high goodness of prediction and less than 10% error. Spectra from human vaginal fluid revealed numerous bacterial features and were compared to quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Thus, SERS can be used for detecting vaginal bacteria toward routine clinical monitoring.
