Knowledge, attitude, and perception of the parents towards HPV vaccine administration to their children in Saudi Arabia
Résumé fourni par la source
Introduction: The environment of a patient is a potential source of acquiring infection in the hospital setting.Measures to mitigate cross contamination are warranted. This study sought to determine the use of antimicrobial and sporicidal curtains together with LED medical lights as a measure to reduce hospital associated infections. Methods:Fifteen antimicrobial and sporicidal curtains (endurocide) and LED medical lights (Lightico CleanLight) were installed in an adult intensive care unit at a tertiary institution.Data for ESKAPE pathogens isolated from patients pre installation was collected as a baseline. After four months of installation, two swabs per curtain were collected, making a total of thirty swabs. These swabs were collected on high touched areas and were immediately inoculated onto culture plates and incubated for 48 hours.Matrixassisted laser desorption ionization-time-of-flight mass spectrometry system was used to confirm identified isolates.Data for ESKAPE pathogens isolated from patients four months post installation was also collected. Results: The ESKAPE pathogens isolated pre installation were carbapenem resistant Acinetobacter baumannii, carbapenemresistant Klebsiella pneumoniae and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The number of isolates were 9, 3 and 1 respectively.Four months post installation, only 1 carbapenem resistant Acinetobacter baumannii was isolated with no other ESKAPE pathogen isolated.Of the swabs collected from curtains, 8 out of 30 had scanty growth of coagulase negative staphylococci. No ES-KAPE pathogens were isolated.Discussion: Although this is the early phase of the study, there was a remarkable reduction of ESKAPE pathogens despite the stable number of admissions in the unit. The coagulase negative staphylococci isolated on the curtains are in keeping with the high touched areas by health care workers. There is paucity of data with regards to the use of both endurocide and Lightico CleanLight in healthcare environment. In a similar study that only involved the use of endurocide curtains was conducted in a two-inpatient unit of a large military medical hospital which revealed a significant reduction of bacterial contamination following the installation of endurocide curtains as compared to cloth curtains with no new hospital associated infections reported during their study period. An extended research is warranted to assess the effectiveness of the combination of endurocide and Lightico CleanLight. Conclusion: Hospital associated infections have become a major problem globally with limited treatment options for multi-drug resistant organisms. The use of antimicrobial and sporicidal curtains with LED medical lights appears to be a promising measure to mitigate the transmission of hospital associated infections.
