Analysis and research on the movement behavior of dust particles during powder feeding

Abstract With the development of industry, the demand for powdered materials has gradually increased. Dust pollution generated during the loading and transportation of powdered materials has become increasingly severe. Silica powder is widely used in chemical production; however, a large amount of dust is generated during the feeding process of silica powder, which can lead to silicosis in workers exposed to it over long periods. To address the issue of substantial dust generation during the feeding of silica powder, this paper analyzes the mechanisms of dust formation and the forces acting on silica powder during the feeding process. Additionally, using the Euler-Lagrange (CFD-DPM) model, the internal flow field of the powder feeding process is simulated, examining the impact of mass flow rate and drop height on dust particle movement behavior. The research results show that dust is formed when the airflow resistance acting on powder particles overcomes their buoyant weight. As the mass flow rate increases, the amount of generated dust also increases. Analyzing dust movement behavior provides an in-depth understanding of dust dispersion patterns and dynamic characteristics, offering a scientific basis for industrial dust removal and reducing dust spread.
